How the hell does the new Jaguar XE weigh so fricken' much?
Yet Jaguar admits that its aluminum car isn't exactly light. With the supercharged V-6 and rear-wheel drive, the XE weighs nearly 3700 pounds. That's on par with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and about 100 pounds heavier than the neurotically optimized, steel-intensive !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
In actuality, if we're comparing curb weights to curb weights (and I'm well aware of the inaccuracy, but apples to apples as it were) the Cadillac actually is even lighter than what C&D is saying. On Caddy's own website, the 3.6L Premium RWD is 3,461lbs. The 3.6L Premium AWD is 3,629lbs. The AWD ATS essentially weighs as much as the XE, and that's even with the fancy Magnetorheological dampers.
I know the Supercharger adds some weight, and even Jag admits they put some heavier suspension in the XE, but it still seems on the heavy side to me. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not someone that believes every car needs to be as light as an Ariel Atom or the company has failed. But these are the weights for the RWD model. The AWD model will be pushing 4,000lbs for a compact sports sedan.
Just to put it into perspective, the XE weighs as much as Lexus' Frankenshtein steel chassis design for the RC350, and the XE uses a brand new chassis design with 75% aluminum usage.
All that said, it still sounds like it's a blast to drive.
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

A ton of feathers still weighs a ton. It's still a large car.

But other luxury weigh less. In some cases, by a couple of hundred lbs.

I'd be interested to see the crash test. The aluminum-yet-overbuilt honeycomb they used on the XJ220 was absolutely legendary - so something a bit cheaper but using more metal I'd have high hopes for.
